A tiny borough in Butler County first settled in 1792, Mars is truly out of this world. Due to its unique name, the area has received some media attention and boasts several space-themed attractions and annual events.
Music of the Spheres
Not far from Mars is the Bayernhof Museum, a one-of-a-kind museum housed in a historic manor. Open by reservation only, the museum is home to several unique musical machines built in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Visitors can hear and even play the exhibits themselves, including some original inventions by Thomas Edison.
Life on Mars?
Every year, Mars holds a New Year’s Festival — but it’s not meant to celebrate the new year on Earth, it’s for the new year on the planet Mars! This two-year event serves as a celebration of science, with plenty of exhibits and workshops themed around space, robotics and other STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) fields. NASA regularly provides exhibits and speakers, along with other science-based organizations.
