The Oakland Business Improvement District, which promotes commerce in Pittsburgh’s Oakland neighborhood, announced this fall the founding of a new project aimed at spurring physical wellness in the community.

The Oakland Mindful Mile project is an initiative that created a weaving mile-long loop that combs through Oakland and offers walkers the chance to embrace urban life and nature while separating themselves from their busy daily routines.

As you make your way through the holiday shopping rush and end-of-year responsibilities with the kids in tow, you now have the opportunity to pause and implement positive mental health practices as a family.

This project was funded by the Urban Redevelopment Authority. The Oakland Business Improvement District placed QR codes with a map for the Mindful Mile in hospitals, universities, businesses and hotels in Oakland. The curated route, designed by a Certified Forest Therapy Guide, includes immersive, mindful prompts to encourage reflection, relaxation and awareness.
