Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year, but that’s not to say that the festivities come without any controversy. Over the last decade or so, a new cultural debate has emerged related to the country’s most celebrated holiday: is Bruce Willis’ classic 1988 action thriller “Die Hard” a Christmas movie?

Luckily for you, the debate has been settled—at least for now—by the legendary Bricolage Production Company, which will put on a “high octane, Pittsburgh-ified holiday” version of the famous film from Thursday through Sunday Dec. 6 to Dec. 22 at Barebones Black Box.

This version of “Die Hard”—called “Die Hard N’At”—will be conclusively Christmas.
Though “Die Hard” is not a production for young children, parents seeking a festive night out during the holiday season may favor trading their 50th rewatch of the classic movie at home for this local adaptation.

The production will be presented in Bricolage’s traditional midnight radio format, which parodies radio broadcasts of the 1930s, ’40s and ’50s. The show was adapted by Gayle Pazerski and directed by Bricolage Founder Jeffery Carpenter, and promises a story “yinz know and love, dialed up to 11, with a hilariously original Steel City spin,” according to a news release.

The cast includes familiar faces in the Pittsburgh theater scene: Tami Dixon, Wali Jamal, Patrick Jordan, Jason McCune and Sheila McKenna.

Carpenter says that he is beyond excited for the event, the organization’s first in person since the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Finally, we’re back,” he says in the news release. “This one is going to be truly special! I can’t wait to see our audience in person for the first time since 2019 for this alternative holiday classic!”
