Summer Science Splash Camp at Westminster College

Summer Science Splash Camp at Westminster College is an immersive, week-long residential camp for middle-school students which focuses on scientific observations and experiments. Campers will spend their days in the lab and in the field, exploring technology and the natural world in sessions led by Westminster faculty and assisted by Westminster students.  Evening activities will include games, sports, arts, hanging out with new friends, and MORE SCIENCE.

Campers do not need to have an advanced understanding of science to attend, but they are expected to be excited and motivated to learn!

Who are our Campers?  Students who are in 6th, 7th, or 8th grade in 2018-19.  Sixty campers per session will be grouped into five teams for the week, learning and competing together.

Who are our Teachers?  Five Westminster College science faculty will lead each group of 12 Campers through a set of engaging science activities.  Additional staff will support some of the evening activities.

Who are our Counselors?  Westminster College students and alumni will assist in each lab session, guide campers around the Westminster College campus, and oversee evening activities, with one Counselor for every nine Campers.  Beyond that, a “House Parent” will be present in the residence halls with the Campers and Counselors for some additional adult oversight.

Thanks to the financial support of the II-VI Foundation and the Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation, we are able to offer this week-long residential camp at a cost of $450 per camper.  This cost includes a week of top-notch science instruction, lodging, meals, snacks, supervised activities, camp shirts, and a variety of other goodies and prizes.

In addition, we are excited to award a $500 Westminster College Scholarship to each Camper!

Choose from two sessions:

  • Session I: July 7 – July 12
  • Session II: July 14 – July 19
