Steelers safety Minkah Fitzpatrick and KidsVoice team up to tackle Child Abuse
Pittsburgh Steelers safety Minkah Fitzpatrick is partnering with KidsVoice on a season-long campaign to raise money for foster children served by KidsVoice, Allegheny County’s advocates for abused and neglected children.
Throughout the 2021 season, Fitzpatrick is asking Steelers fans to make a pledge for every tackle he makes and turnover the team forces. All proceeds from the campaign will go to Minkah Fitzpatrick’s Unshackled Foundation, which supports the approximately 3,000 children that KidsVoice serves each year.
Fitzpatrick is kicking off the campaign by pledging $39 for each tackle and turnover completed this season and is asking fans to join him in this effort.
“I am proud to work with KidsVoice to advocate for foster children here in Western Pennsylvania,” said Fitzpatrick, who is beginning his third year with the Steelers. “This year, thanks to help from our partners, my Unshackled Foundation is also launching the Dreambuilders Fund, which works with older youth aging out of the foster system and who have now become parents themselves. The fund will help these former foster children provide items and experiences for their kids that they may not otherwise be able to afford. That may be toys, books, trips to the zoo, or just anything that makes a kid feel like a kid. It’s important for me to help these young parents.”
Individuals who meet certain donation markers will receive special gifts. At $2 per tackle/turnover, or a flat donation of $200 or more, donors will receive a signed photo. Pledges of $5 or more per tackle/turnover, or a flat donation of $400 or more, will receive a signed Steelers mini helmet. Anyone making a pledge of $39 or more per tackle/turnover, or a flat donation of at least $3,000, will receive two tickets to Fitzpatrick’s Champions Reception in November to meet the athlete and get a signed jersey.

“KidsVoice works with thousands of abused and neglected children each year,” said Scott Hollander, executive director of KidsVoice. “Having a Steeler they look up to believe in them and their futures is a pretty amazing gift. That’s especially true for older youth coming out of the child welfare system who were abused and neglected and are now parents on their own trying to break the cycle of trauma. For them, the encouragement and support Minkah and his family provide through the Unshackled Foundation doesn’t really exist anywhere else.”
The campaign is supported by First National Bank, the Pittsburgh Steelers and Sport Clips.
