Pittsburgh Parent Wins 6 Parenting Media Association Awards in 2025

Pittsburgh Parent won six awards at the 2025 Parenting Media Association Awards, which honors achievements in parenting journalism across the United States. These awards, judged by the University of Missouri School of Journalism and covering content published between July 2024 and June 2025, were announced at the PMA Annual Conference in Chicago, Illinois, Nov. 6 to Nov. 8.

Mid-Atlantic Media acquired Pittsburgh Parent last November, so these are the first wins for Pittsburgh Parent since joining the publishing company.

The magazine earned three gold awards and three silver awards across several writing and design categories. Freelance writer Leslie Savisky received a gold award in the “Child Development & Parenting Article” category for her article “Coparenting: Best Practices for Families,” as well as a silver award in “Service Feature” for her piece “What’s in a Name?” about unique ways of choosing baby names.

“This is a great example of service journalism,” the PMA judges write of “Coparenting: Best Practices for Families.” “It is well sourced and well written, with a lot of practical advice to help parents navigate the mine fields involved in co-parenting, and gives tips on how the schools these students attend can help.”

Another writer, Carrie Woodard, also received two awards: a gold award in the “Q&A Interview” category for “What Teachers Actually Want” and a silver award in the “Personal Essay” category for “I’ve Heard It’s Important To Talk About Race, Where To Begin.”

Pittsburgh Parent also received awards for its graphic design, with two awards going to designer Carl Wiegel. Wiegel was given a gold award in “Department Design” for the magazine’s education section, along with the silver award in “Single-Page Design” for his work on the article “Lifelong Sports.”
