Happy Birthday to Us!
We are Celebrating 30 Years of being your Community Parenting Resource.

Honey Hill Publishing has produced Pittsburgh Parent for the last 30 years. Over the years the magazine has received international recognition in the annual Parenting Media Association Editorial and Design Competition. We are proud of our 27 Gold medals, 17 Silvers and 13 Bronze awards which are representative of excellence in journalism, photography and design achieved in parenting publications.

Pittsburgh Parent was a dream that founder and publisher Marilyn Honeywill (1930-2013) turned into a reality in 1988, a dream to provide resources for parents and families throughout Western Pennsylvania.
In Marilyn’s own words: “ It all began in 1988 with the birth of a child … Pittsburgh’s Child! The labor pains were unusually long, in fact they lasted for about nine months. We were fortunate to find two midwives to help us select equipment, the design and, most important, to teach me how to use a computer (remember this was 1988 and the technology was still relatively new to the average person) and I knew “Diddly-squat” about how to publish the magazine!”

The whole idea of a parenting magazine in Pittsburgh was conceived in Marilyn’s heart and mind when she was handed a copy of Seattle’s Child while visiting her daughter, Gretchen, in Seattle. A call to the local publisher, a meeting and the dream to create today’s Pittsburgh Parent began to unfold.
The original Pittsburgh’s Child and Honey Hill Publishing were launched in the basement of Marilyn’s home by Marilyn and her daughter Lynn Honeywill-Norris. In 1998 the name of the magazine was changed to Pittsburgh Parent. Today, the business is still family owned and operated by Marilyn’s daughter, Lynn and Lynn’s daughter Kerri Fugh-Lutz.
Three generations of family commitment has grown Honey Hill Publishing beyond the original monthly parenting magazine to include the annual Around & About Pittsburgh Go-To Guide and PittsburghParent.com for online parenting information. In addition Honey Hill annually presents the virtual Summer Activities and Camp Expo and the virtual Education Expo. Our reach has expanded to today’s parents through a new mobile-friendly designed website and use of social media.
As a team, the Honey Hill staff is committed to providing parents of infants through teens with up-to-date information and resources to enhance all aspects of parenting and family life. Pittsburgh Parent magazine is distributed monthly for free to over 600 locations. You can check us out online at PittsburghParent.com!

Let me close with a few more of Marilyn’s words the year before she left us to carry on her legacy: “Along the way Pittsburgh Parent has been blessed with family, friends and a staff who has dedicated both time and talent … as well as advertisers who believed in us from the beginning … making it possible for us to fulfill our mission of providing area parents with information on health, education, products, services and entertainment to make informed decisions concerning their families, especially the children.”
