Annual Allegheny County Marbles Program Started on March 11

The Allegheny County Parks Department today announced its annual marbles program will take place March 11-May 15 at 13 locations throughout the county. The program is free for all kids ages 14 and under.“The Allegheny County Marbles Program is a great way for kids to have fun and make new friends,” said Parks Director Andy Baechle. “We encourage everyone to come out and be a part of this longstanding tradition.”All local winners will qualify for the Allegheny County Marbles Championship, which will be held May 16-18 in the Family Law Center courtyard. The top eight girls and top eight boys will receive trophies. The top two girls and top two boys will also receive crowns and compete in the 96th Annual National Marbles Championship June 17-21 in Wildwood, N.J.Allegheny County’s marbles program has produced 33 national champions since the tournament started in 1922, including 14 since 2004: Madison Johnson in 2018; Sierra Ricci and Eli Murphy in 2017; Haley Grenesko in 2016; Emily Cavacini in 2013; Bailey Narr and Brandon Matchett in 2011; Penelope Bauer in 2010; Amber Ricci and John Leffakis in 2008; Alexandra Bauer in 2007; Keith Moss in 2006; Jamie Miller in 2005; and Carly Miller in 2004.The complete marbles program schedule follows.
