The special screenings scheduled for this August at Carnegie Science Center’s Rangos Giant Cinema highlight all the best parts of summer – swimming at the beach, hanging out with friends, and catching an awesome concert. The difference between The Rangos and other theaters showing fun flicks? A fully immersive experience with the most sophisticated cinema technology in Pittsburgh.

From Thursday, Aug. 9–Sunday, Aug. 12, Jaws, Steven Spielberg’s seminal summer blockbuster, will have audiences rethinking their trip to the beach as the man-eating great white shark swims across Pittsburgh’s largest screen. Newly restored for the digital age, moviegoers will feel the fear in 4K digital resolution, and The Rangos’ premium surround sound will make the menacing “Dun-dun…dun-dun…” theme music even more terrifying. Rated PG.

The Rangos will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the most groundbreaking anime series of all time – Cowboy Bebop – on Wednesday, Aug. 15 and Thursday, Aug. 16. Cowboy Bebop, which follows the futuristic misadventures and tragedies of an easygoing bounty hunter and his partners, blazed a trail for anime upon its release in 1998, bringing the genre to the Western masses. The Rangos will present the series’ hit film, Cowboy Bebop: The Movie Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door. The movie centers on a mysterious terrorist planning to destroy the human population on Mars using an unknown pathogen. The bounty hunter crew of the spaceship Bebop work to find the terrorist and discover the source of the pathogen before the attack can take place.

Viewers will also enjoy a new 15-minute bonus segment, in which the English language voice actors from the series and movie discuss working on Cowboy Bebop: The Movie-Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door. The subtitled version will show on Wednesday, Aug. 15, and the dubbed version will show on Thursday, Aug. 16. Rated R. Visitors must be age 18 or older to attend.

Rounding out the special screenings for August is U2 3D, a concert film the follows one of the most popular musical acts of all time, showing Friday, Aug. 17–Sunday, Aug. 19. Visitors will get a front-row seat to the final leg of U2’s “Vertigo” tour in South America and hear some of the band’s most beloved tracks, including “Pride (In the Name of Love),” “New Year’s Day,” “Sunday Bloody Sunday,” “Miss Sarajevo,” “Where the Streets Have No Name,” “With or Without You,” “Bullet the Blue Sky” and “One,” as well as more recent tracks such as “Beautiful Day,” “Love and Peace or Else,” “Vertigo,” “Sometimes You Can’t Make It On Your Own” and “Yahweh.” Rated G.
