Saltworks Studio is a place to imagine, explore, and create! Our classes, camps, and workshops offer youth a warm, welcoming, and relaxed environment to dream up and perform original pieces of theater that range from silly improvised scenes to plays about the change our students would like to see in their world. With an emphasis on having fun, positive attitudes, and collaboration, our programming encourages students to improve theater and communication skills at their own pace, whether they’re brand new to acting or have been involved for years.
This summer we’re offering three different opportunities: a two week day camp just for teens, a one week day camp, and a series of workshops leading up to a five minute play festival. Throughout the year we also offer fall and spring classes as well as various workshops and other events. All programming takes place in Oakland and scholarships are available. For more information check out our website, www.saltworks.org, or find us on social media (as Saltworks Theatre Company). You can also call (412) 621-6150 ext. 205 or email firstname.lastname@example.org. We’d love to hear from you!
Theater for Change Camp (Ages 14-18, July 15-26, Mondays-Fridays only, 9-3:30, $300)
Students will develop the skills necessary for working as an ensemble and apply those skills to creating, rehearsing, and performing an original play inspired by the change they’d like to see in their world. This is a more challenging experience than our one week camp, but it’ll also be a lot of fun as we’ll make time for things like theater games, dance parties, and choose-your-own theater classes!
Play in a Week Camp (Ages 10-16, August 5-9, 9-3:30, $220)
Students will work in small groups to create original plays in just one week. They’ll rely on their imaginations and creativity as well as daily prompts and challenges. We’ll also work on theater skills through warmups, games, theater classes, and other large group activities. To add to the fun we’ll have awesome camp activities like daily costume themes. We’ll end the week with a showcase to share our plays!
Five Minute Play Festival (Ages 10-18, August 12-16, 9-3:30, $50/day)
Students can attend any number of the workshops in this series. Monday we’ll write the plays, Tuesday we’ll learn about directing, Wednesday we’ll design costumes, lights, and sound, Thursday we’ll have an acting class, and Friday we’ll rehearse. Then we’ll invite friends and family to come see us perform the five minute plays that were written, directed, and designed, all by our students!
