April 1 Deadline for Essay Contest – asks local youth to dream big and win!
The Three Rivers Workforce Investment Board (TRWIB) and the Allegheny Intermediate Unit are challenging local youth to dream big through the “Imagine! Your Future Competition.” Open to students of all school districts in Allegheny County, the essay contest is being held in conjunction with the TRWIB’s 6th annual Imagine! Career Week, April 26-May 4, 2012.
The contest asks local youth to provide a futuristic perspective on their career goals and their dream careers in Pittsburgh. The award is designed to encourage young people to reflect on all of the opportunities the region offers, as well as to research and explore various career paths and local industries. The grand prize winners receive the chance to shadow someone in their dream field.
Imagine! Career Week is a week-long series of events and workshops that provides the opportunity for more than 6,100 youth, young adults and families to explore the myriad of career possibilities that exist for them throughout the Pittsburgh region, with an emphasis on careers for the 21st Century. The week will feature many educational workshops and networking opportunities with prospective employers.
This year’s essay contest winner will be announced May 1. Application and submission process:
Entries can be submitted through creative essays or videos www.imaginecareerweek.org/contest.html.
Entrants should detail their dream career and how they will achieve their goal.
Applicants should only share their first name, school and grade level.
No personal information should be given within their work but should be included on the entry form.
Deadline is April 1, 2012.
1,000 word limit for essays or 2-4 minute length for video submissions.

A winner will be selected in each category (Written and Video).
Submissions will be judged on creativity, research/knowledge of their future career.
Grand prizes (one from each category and grade level division) include a job shadow opportunity; winners will also receive a $100 gift card.

o Middle School- Grades, 6-8
o High School- Grades, 9-12
